Many not interested in Rugby World Cup - survey

9:53 pm on 13 July 2011

A survey suggests about a quarter of New Zealanders are not interested in the Rugby World Cup and will not be watching the games live or on television.

The survey released by the Tourism Industry Association questioned more than 1000 people.

Of those surveyed, 71% said they would attend games or watch them on television, while more than a quarter said they were not interested.

The survey says 15% of those interested in the tournament will attend at least one live game, but only 2% will go to five games or more.

The survey has a margin of error of plus or minus 3.1%.

The tournament starts on 9 September.
