Parole frozen for killer driver

A deadly drink driver has had his parole chances frozen until early 2013.

Gavin Hawthorn's criminal record dates back to 1979 and includes the killing of four people in two separate crashes.

His current stint in prison is a 10 year term for manslaughter.

Last month Hawthorn waived a chance to plead his case in person to the Parole Board, which earlier said he was dithering about addressing his behaviour.

The board has now postponed his parole eligibility until March 2013.

Hawthorn's sentence expires in June 2013 when, by law, he must be freed.
