Researchers close to growing human bowel

Researchers in Christchurch believe they could be able to create a functioning human bowel within ten years.

In a world first, Christchurch hospital's department of paediatric surgery has successfully grown muscle bowel cells which contract.

Professor Spencer Beasley says the technology will be especially helpful to those with Crohn's disease and children born with small intetestinal abnormalities.
