Human remains have been found at the Goat Island marine reserve, near Leigh, north of Auckland.
A recreational diver at the island contacted police after seeing what he believed were human remains in 16 metre deep water.
The Police Dive Squad attended on Sunday and have confirmed the find.
They have been working to recover the remains.
