Fire at rural church investigated

9:05 pm on 20 July 2011

Police believe the blaze that destroyed a small rural church west of Hamilton was suspicious.

The Ngahinapouri Community Church was burnt in a fire that started about 4am on Tuesday.

Police say there is nothing to suggest it is linked to a fire at a service station in Whakamaru on Tuesday, or another fire at a church in Paterangi last month, but they will continue to look for evidence.

Detective Sergeant Daryl Smith of the Hamilton Criminal Investigation Bureau says police will make a leaflet drop in the Ngahinapouri area to appeal for information.
