Charge laid over Wairoa gang shooting

5:04 pm on 22 July 2011

A 23-year-old man from Napier was due to appear in court on Friday afternoon over a gang shooting in Wairoa.

In late October last year a member of the Mongrel Mob was shot through the window of a parked vehicle at a petrol station in the town.

Detective Sergeant Kevin Ford says the police believe the attack was in retaliation for a gang shooting a few days before.

A fortnight ago the police arrested nine Mongrel Mob members in Wairoa, as part of their investigation into the shooting of a Black Power member in the town.

Mr Ford says the 23-year-old has been charged with being a party to attempted murder.

He says police are still looking for other in relation to the shooting, but have had little co-operation from the gangs.
