A man has been arrested in relation to the sudden death of a man in the Auckland suburb of St Heliers.
Ambulance staff called to an assault at the property on Maskell Street at about 2.30pm on Thursday found Brian Culpan, 72, dead.
Detective Senior Sergeant Kevin Hooper says a post-mortem found Mr Culpan died as a result of a neck injury consistent with a fall.
Mr Hooper says it is believed the elderly man had been involved in a fight at the property before he died with someone he knew.
He says a 50-year-old man was arrested on Thursday night and appeared in Auckland District Court on Friday charged with assault.
