Police say the forfeiture of a house in Rotorua sends a clear message about the consequences of dealing illicit drugs.
A man, 41, and woman, 38, were caught growing cannabis indoors last August and 80 plants were seized.
The man was sentenced on Friday to eight months home detention and the woman to nine months supervision.
As well, their home was ordered to be forfeited under legislation introduced last year.
Detective Sergeant Ryan Yardly says offenders need to realise that if they are involved in the illicit drugs trade, they risk not only losing their freedom, but also their property.
