Man arrested after supermarket stand-off

An armed man who caused a stand-off in a supermarket carpark on the North Shore of Auckland overnight is in custody.

Police were called to the Pak'nSave supermarket in Wairau Road in Glenfield at 10.20pm on Friday where a man in an agitated state with a firearm, was talking to a woman.

Armed Offenders Squad members negotiated with the man for several hours, and he eventually surrendered at about 2am.

Police say neither the woman, who stayed near the man throughout the ordeal, or anyone else was injured.

A man, 37, appeared in court on Saturday on charges of breaching a protection order and unlawful possession of a firearm.

He was remanded in custody to appear on Monday in the North Shore District Court.
