The first of a number of new rides to be added to the New Zealand cycle trail will be launched next month.
They will be on quiet existing roads and will require only minor improvements.
The first route is on State Highway 43, through the King Country and Taranaki. It will open on 20 August in Taumaranui.
Eighteen off-road trails are currently being built.
The Ministry of Economic Development is yet to indicate what other routes will be add to the cycle trail, but says it is in the process of engaging with several councils.
