The East Coast route, State Highway 35, has reopened on Tuesday.
The road was closed five days ago just south of Ruatoria when flooding undermined the foundations of a temporary bridge.
Transport Agency contractors completed work on repairing the bridge's foundations on Tuesday evening and the highway reopened about 6.30pm, more than 12 hours ahead of schedule.
