12:03 pm on 29 July 2011

A ward at Whangarei Hospital has been closed and four of its patients isolated because of a suspected outbreak of norovirus.

Two staff members are infected with viral gastroenteritis-like symptoms.

Northland District Health Board public relations manager Fleur King says the outbreak has been contained within the ward and steps have been taken to reduce the risk to other patients.

Ms King says the ward will should re-open in the next 24 to 48 hours.
