Union members back at polytech after strike

Tertiary Education Union members at Christchurch Polytechnic Institute of Technology are back at work after striking on Monday, but say negotiations over pay are still underway.

More than 100 tutors walked off the job on Monday, saying the polytechnic was threatening to relinquish three weeks annual leave over the next three years without remuneration.

Union organiser Phil Dodds says the members want a pay rise of 8% in 2011 and a rise of 3% in 2012.

But the polytechnic says it is offering a fair deal of a 6% pay rise over two years and an additional 2% rise if the employee works an extra week in the year.
