Snow may affect endurance race

7:15 am on 6 August 2011

Organisers of this year's Peak to Peak endurance race in Queenstown are hoping the weather will not curtail the annual event.

Snow forecast for Saturday may force the alteration of some sections of the race on the Remarkables skifield.

Competitors ski down the Remarkables, then mountain-bike down the access road, kayak across Lake Wakatipu and run to the Coronet Peak access road before biking to the top.

The organiser, Geoff Hunt, says some teams are hoping to complete the course in under two hours. More than 200 people are registered to compete.

The race is due to begin at midday.
