Airline fined $12,000 for breaching curfew

Updated at 3:23 pm on 8 August 2011

Qantas subsidiary Jet Connect has been fined $12,000 for breaching a curfew at Wellington International Airport last year.

The airline's flight from Sydney last September was plagued with difficulties and arrived in Wellington at 1.47am.

Wellington City Council's District Plan states that no plane should land after 1am, or after 1.30am if an extension is granted due to disruptions.

Judge Jan Kelly imposed the fine in Wellington District Court on Monday, saying Jet Connect's early guilty plea and their co-operation reduced the fine she would initially have imposed.

The maximum fine for breaching the curfew is $600,000.
