New Zealanders have reported losing more than $750,000 in the past year to internet scams.
Online safety organisation Netsafe says more than half the amount was lost through phishing attacks, advanced fee fraud and romance scams.
It says one particularly concerning scam is fraudsters ringing a victim and telling them they have a virus in order to get access to their computer.
Netsafe says people who have been scammed should report it online via its website.
