Police have launched a homicide investigation following the death of a 24-year-old man in the Lower Hutt suburb of Pomare.
Detective Senior Sergeant Paul Borrell says police were called to an assault on High Street about 9.20pm on Saturday.
He says the assault appears to have followed an argument between the 24-year-old and a group of people.
He says the man was placed on life support and died on Sunday afternoon.
A 17-year-old Lower Hutt man has been charged with assault.
