Some 108 cases of measles have been confirmed in the Auckland region and three people have been quarantined.

The Auckland Regional Public Health Service says seven people have been hospitalised during the current outbreak which has mostly appeared in West Auckland.

There have also been two cases of rubella - a virus particularly dangerous for pregnant women and their unborn children.

The number of confirmed cases of measles has also grown in Waikato, where 18 people now have the illness and two are being tested.

All the people affected in that region are aged between 13 and 20.
