Restaurant Brands to pay staff unable to get to work

Updated at 10:24 am on 16 August 2011

Restaurant Brands Ltd says it will pay people who could not get to work because of snow storms in July and again this week.

The Unite union says employees at the company's three brands, KFC, Pizza Hut and Starbucks, were told last month that failure to turn up for work during the July snowstorms in Christchurch would result in their pay being docked.

The union says the same warning was issued this week.

It says that when employees turned up at a KFC in Christchurch on Monday, they were told it was closed due to the snow and they would not be paid.

But in a statement, Restaurant Brands said employees who showed up for work will be paid and anyone forced to return home early because of snow will also be paid for their full shift.
