East coast sea swells beginning to ease

9:16 am on 18 August 2011

MetService says six metre sea swells on the east coast of the North Island are abating.

Coastal residents at Haumoana, Te Awanga and Clifton in Hawkes Bay were told on Wednesday night to be ready to evacuate, but big waves did not eventuate.

MetService says the swells are beginning to ease and are likely to drop to about four metres as the day progresses.
