Aitken to stand down as Silver Ferns coach

Silver Ferns coach Ruth Aitken is to stand down in October and take up a new role as Netball New Zealand coaching director.

Aitken is one of the longest serving coaches on the international sports scene and has been coach of the New Zealand side for 10 years.

However, she says she knew it was time to go after the Ferns' extra-time loss to Australia in the final of the World Championships in Singapore in July.

Aitken has won 85 of her 110 games as coach, including the World Championship title in 2003 and Commonwealth Games gold medals in 2006 and 2010.
