The body of the New Zealand soldier killed in Afghanistan has been flown out of Kabul by the Australian Defence Force.
Corporal Doug Grant, 41, was among 16 SAS soldiers who responded to a Taliban attack on British Council offices in Kabul on Friday.
He was helping to rescue five people when he was shot by an insurgent and died as he was being flown to the Bagram Air Base hospital.
[image:2834:full]The Hercules has transported the body to an undisclosed transit point and it will be flown back to New Zealand on a commercial flight from that location.
The New Zealand Defence Force said on Monday a private commemoration for Corporal Grant in Auckland has been proposed.
The soldier's body will then be formally transported to Linton Army Camp where it will lie in state, followed by a service. Those details are to be confirmed later this week.
