Skull found beneath Christchurch house

6:25 pm on 24 August 2011

Police say a human skull found by insulating contractors under a Christchurch house has no link to any missing person or crime.

The skull was found on Friday in the suburb of South Brighton and appears to be that of an adult. It is missing teeth and the lower jaw bone.

A pathologist says the skull is at least five years old but could be much older.

Police say there is no evidence of trauma on the skull and no other remains were found nearby.

The skull has been referred to an anthropologist who will try and put a more accurate date on how old it is.
