Boss's contract extended before assault complaint emerged

A public sector boss under investigation for allegedly assaulting an employee had her contract extended for a year, just two months before the complaint against her became public.

The chief executive of the Department of Building and Housing, Katrina Bach has been accused of verbally abusing and physically assaulting one of her workers.

On 23 May, her contract was extended for another year effective from November.

Two months later, in July, the assault complaint emerged.

The department commissioned an independent lawyer to investigate the claims and a report is due by the end of next month.

The State Services Commission will then investigate the way the department has handled the matter.
