Police in Wanaka have grave concerns for the safety of a German tourist missing on Lake Hawea since Monday afternoon.
They say he borrowed a kayak from a friend to paddle from Lake Hawea township to Timaru Creek on the eastern shore of the lake.
Police were told on Wednesday he was missing and searchers found his kayak and paddle in separate locations.
The search will continue on Thursday.
