More snow in South Island

11:34 am on 1 September 2011

Snow is falling again in parts of Southland and Otago. Canterbury is next in line.

MetService says a cold southwest flow is spreading over the lower South Island and snow could be settling above 100 or 200 metres by evening.

Snow showers are forecast to develop on Thursday afternoon and may turn to widespread rain.

Compared to the big storm in mid-August, MetService says the snow will be brief and is not expected to bring heavy falls to low levels.
