Conservation Department confirms job losses

5:22 pm on 6 September 2011

The Department of Conservation has confirmed almost 100 staff will lose their jobs.

The department says 96 legal, planning, science and technical support jobs will be lost in 11 regional conservancy offices and in its head office in Wellington.

Director-General Al Morrison says no ranger jobs are going and it will maintain its conservation work in the field.

Staff will either be redeployed or made redundant during the next six months, he says.
