The Inland Revenue has announced it will cut 156 staff at five regional offices next year.
In August, the department announced that almost 200 jobs were to go from branches in Rotorua, New Plymouth, Invercargill, Nelson and Napier, but has since lowered that figure.
A department spokesperson says after consulting with staff, it decided to reduce the number of redundancies.
