The driver of the logging truck that collided with a school bus in Bay of Plenty has been discharged from hospital.

Thirty-five pupils and the 41-year-old truck driver were injured in the crash near Ruatoki on Monday.

An eight-year-old girl, who was the most seriously hurt, remains in a critical but stable condition in Auckland's Starship Hospital on Wednesday.

One of the students on the bus was the truck driver's cousin.

A spokesperson for the driver and his family says he is on indefinite leave from his job and is resting at home.

He says the driver has not spoken about the accident and has not yet been interviewed by police.
