Woman hit by police car in critical condition

10:50 am on 9 September 2011

A Napier woman is in a critical condition with head injuries in Hawke's Bay hospital after being struck by a police car in Napier.

Inspector Kevin Kalff says the woman was on Hastings Street near the Brazen Head pub just before 1am on Friday.

He says it appears she was standing on the side of the road near the bar when she ran across the road and into the path of the police car.

Mr Kalff says the police car was not travelling faster than the speed limit of 50km per hour.

The serious crash unit is investigating and police would like to hear from anyone who may be able to shed light on the incident.
