The president of Mitsubishi Motors, Osamu Masuko, has met the Mayor of Wellington, Celia Wade-Brown as the city council adds an electric Mitsubishi to its car fleet.
Mr Masuko says only a handful of the company's i-MiEV electric cars have been sold in New Zealand to date.
However, he believes consumer demand is growing and he believes New Zealand consumers, with their strong environmental concerns, will be interested in the i-MiEV.
