Second waka arrives in Wellington

A pair of ceremonial waka now have a home on the Wellington waterfront, following a ceremony on Friday morning.

The recently finished Te Rerenga Kotare arrived for a maiden voyage on Wellington harbour.

Its counterpart, Te Hononga, arrived in the capital last month.

Both will be on permanent display in the wharewaka, which is in the heart of the city's Rugby World Cup fan zone.

The launch follows a lengthy dispute about ownership, which flared up earlier this year between Wellington City Council and an iwi in Lower Hutt.
