A woman accused of stealing more than $1 million from her employer has pleaded guilty in the Wellington District Court.

Susan Hagai was accused of stealing from the Hibernian Catholic Benefit Society.

In court on Thursday she admitted one charge of obtaining a pecuniary advantage by deception, relating to her time at the society.

She also pleaded guilty to four lesser charges of causing loss by deception, to do with other matters.

The five counts relate to offending between April 2004 and December last year.

Hagai was remanded on bail until late next month for sentencing. The judge has told her a jail term is likely.
