ERA ruling hailed by Meat Workers Union

The Meat Workers Union has welcomed a decision by the Employment Relations Authority that found that AFFCO breached its obligations to union members.

The ERA has issued two compliance orders requiring the company to provide accurate and balanced information about employment conditions on offer.

AFFCO was also ordered to stop making union members reapply for their jobs at the beginning of each season.

The union says the determination confirms the company showed favouritism to employees who did not belong to the union.

However, secretary Graham Cooke says it is not time to celebrate yet, as AFFCO can still appeal.
