Light law yields few tickets

Fewer than 100 tickets have been issued to motorbike and moped riders since they were required by law to ride with their lights on at all times.

Figures obtained by Radio New Zealand News show there have been 82 infringements since November 2009.

Police say the small number of tickets probably reflects the level of offending, as the majority of riders appear to be happy to have their lights on.

MotoNZ says the numbers show that most riders are trying to be as visible as possible.
