New figures show the number of jobs being worked fell in July after rising for the previous two months.
Statistics New Zealand's national employment indicator shows filled jobs fell 0.3% from June to July.
But July's figure was up 1% compared with the same month a year ago.
Statistics New Zealand uses tax data to measure changes in total filled jobs at the national level.
