Pressure on council to make decison not appreciated

A Hamilton City Council member is critical of the pressure the council was placed under to make a decision on the future on the city's V8 super car race.

On Friday, the council voted to end the contract to stage the event after next year's race is held.

Councillors were told only on Thursday that the Australian owners of the race wanted changes made to the event or they would end their association with Hamilton.

The owners asked that a decision come from council within 24 hours.

Councillor Angela O'Leary says while the V8 super car owners were within their rights to want a change, the process was rushed.

She says councillors were not given the full facts before making a decision.
