An abandoned tavern on State Highway 57in Shannon in the Horowhenua was seriously damaged by fire on Wednesday morning.
Eight fire crews were sent to the fire in the old Albion tavern.
The blaze began just before 5am and caused the tavern's roof to collapse.
Fire fighters had to work from outside the building.
The cause of the fire is being investigated.
