Sexual enhancement drugs recalled

2:46 pm on 6 October 2011

Medsafe has issued an immediate recall of two sexual enhancement products because they contain significant amounts of undeclared prescription medicines.

It says the products, Get Stiff and Maxi Mize, contain one or more of the prescription medicines tadalafil, vardenafil, yohimbine, hydroxyhomosildenafil and hydroxythiohomosildenafil.

Both taladalafil and vardenafil are known to interfere with certain heart medications and inappropriate use can be harmful and even fatal for some people, Medsafe says. The safety of the other substances have not been established.

Director-General of Health Kevin Woods says consumers should immediately stop taking the products and seek medical advice if they have felt unwell or are taking other medicines.

Mr Woods says consumers should treat such herbal supplements with extreme caution and get medical advice before using them.
