Thieves raid Whangarei food bank

2:35 pm on 6 October 2011

Up to $3000 worth of goods has been stolen from the Salvation Army foodbank store in Whangarei.

Foodbank manager Pete Mullenger says thieves broke a window in the storage shed on Tuesday night and made off with the goods before the alarm went off.

Mr Mullenger says the haul included disposable nappies, packets of cereal and tins of fruit and other food being saved for Christmas hampers.

He says police are following strong leads on the theft and he can only appeal to the community to help out - yet again - by donating goods to replace what has been taken.
