Adviser never suspended as kura principal - Tolley

9:36 pm on 6 October 2011

Education Minister Anne Tolley says a student achievement practitioner working in Northland was never suspended from her former role as a kura principal.

Northland principal Pat Newman has complained that the Ministry of Education is employing unqualified people as expert advisers to schools.

Mr Newman, who is also a Labour Party candidate, says the ministry has also employed a former kura principal who was suspended two years ago after a bad Education Review Office report.

But Ms Tolley told MPs on Thursday the Education Ministry extensively checked the background of all of its expert advisers and none have been found to have been previously suspended as a principal.
