Submissions to a government inquiry into foreign charter vessels fishing in New Zealand waters closed on Friday.
The inquiry was initiated following pressure from the Seafood Industry Council to investigate serious allegations of slave-like conditions on some of the foreign flagged deepsea fishing vessels.
Twenty-six ships, or about half the fleet, are registered with overseas companies.
Fisheries Minister Phil Heatley has promised the inquiry will leave no stone unturned.
Maritime Union spokesperson Ray Fife says the union will continue its pressure for action to be taken.
The inquiry panel is expected to report its findings and recommendations to the Government by February.
