Street lights in parts of Wellington, Porirua and Pukerua Bay were late turning on on Friday night.
There were no lights on the motorway and reports from police initially suggested there had been a power cut.
But Wellington Electricity later said there was no outage - they were just a few minutes late flicking the switch.
