Submissions on the controversial Wellywood sign proposed for Wellington Airport close on Sunday

The airport created the competition after a public outcry over the proposed sign planned for the the hills above Miramar Peninsula.

By Saturday, 160 submissions had been received.

A member of the independent judging panel, film producer Dave Gibson, says he is looking forward to helping Wellington choose a winning design.

Mr Gibson says the judging panel has several weeks to choose eight entries for a public vote, with two to go up against the Wellywood sign in a later final vote.
