Submissions close for alternative sign

A shortlist for alternative ideas to the Wellywood sign mooted for the hills on Miramar peninsula next to Wellington international airport, will be issued in the next few weeks.

The airport company bowed to public pressure in June, saying a panel would be set up to consider several options before the ideas are put to a public vote.

More than 300 submissions were received before Sunday's deadline.

A public vote will be held to find the top two entries, which will compete against the Wellywood sign in a final vote.

Wellington Regional Council chair Fran Wilde says the submissions have given the public a good choice.
