Police have charged a man after boiling water was thrown over a four-year-old child in the King Country.
Emergency services were called to a house in Te Kuiti just before 6am on Tuesday.
Police say it appears the water was thrown over the child as a result of a dispute between his grandparents.
The boy is in hospital for treatment for scalding to his buttocks.
A man, 57, has been charged with assaulting a woman, injuring a child and breaching a protection order.
