Strong winds cut power

11:16 am on 12 October 2011

About 100 houses in Dunedin are without electricity because of strong winds.

Delta says the winds brought trees and branches down onto power lines during the night, causing five major faults.

Network services manager Lindsay McLennan says the power was cut for up to 45 minutes at about 2am on Monday to about 9000 houses in Northeast Valley, Port Chalmers and the Taieri Plains.

He says about 100 properties are still without power in Vauxhall at the start of the Otago Peninsula and at Halfway Bush.

Delta hopes to be able to reconnect all the customers by midday.
