New bus exchange to open in Christchurch

A new city bus exchange in Christchurch will begin operating in two weeks' time, making post-quake bus travel more straightforward for thousands of commuters.

The new temporary Central Station on Lichfield St will open on 25 October.

Since the February earthquake two separate bus hubs have been operating, at Hagley Park and on Bealey Ave.

The Christchurch City Council says the new central terminal will reduce travel times and make bus connections more streamlined.

Mayor Bob Parker says it is the first piece of infrastructure to be built in the city since the earthquakes, and he hopes it will restore some of the vibrancy in the central business district.
