NZ could host Olympics - IOC president

8:30 am on 21 October 2011

International Olympic Committee president Jacques Rogge says New Zealand could host an Olympic Games, because other countries with a similar population size - like Norway and Finland - have already done so.

He told Morning Report he's impressed by the way this country has hosted the Rugby World Cup and says there have been some very good matches.

Mr Rogge said it is up to New Zealand to decide whether it would benefit from hosting the event, but he points out that the International Olympic Committee does help countries to raise funds.
