Mental health records missing from quake building

Christchurch police are investigating after a mental health organisation said records and equipment had gone missing from its demolished central city building.

Bipolar Support Canterbury says it is unclear whether important items were dumped by mistake or illegally salvaged.

Spokesperson Sue Ricketts says Bipolar Support had no communication with the owner of the building, Securities House, before it was demolished in May this year.

"We were informed just by a passer-by telling us that this building was due to be demolished very shortly. We found that all of the hardware of the office had been cleared away and that all that was left was just a mish-mash of debris."

Ms Ricketts says staff salvaged important records and personal items from the contents, but noticed that a number of files and valuable items were not there.
